The previous changes were brought in by the Liberal Government (The party in power with a majority of seats). The Bill has gone through 2 readings and two votes the way it is. Enough Liberal MPs showed up for the vote (to win) but the Conservative’s pulled out this last second, useless delay tactic so the Liberals went home and left them there to debate amongst themselves. The reduction to 5gms and asking the government to wait till a roadside tester is invented was the Conservative’s idea. Just one of the 3 opposition parties though. They want to shelve the Bill for 6 months and debated that between themselves for most of the afternoon and into the night. They have no power to change it. The Liberals did not even take part in the discussion and the Conservatives were left to Q&A each other. The two other opposition parties left as well along with some prominent Conservatives. I don’t know when the next vote will come. I will let you know.

So....
March 8 has come and gone. What's the status in Canada of possession and growing of cannabis? Can we get an update? If this did not come to pass as prophecized, can we stone Qwiz? godfry |

Here is the delay tactic... Government Orders The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Cotler (Minister of Justice) , seconded by Mr. Bagnell (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development) , — That Bill C-10, An Act to amend the Contraventions Act and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, be now read a third time and do pass; And of the amendment of Mr. Breitkreuz (Yorkton—Melville) , seconded by Mr. Mills (Red Deer) , — That the motion be amended by deleting all the words after the word “That? and substituting the following: “Bill C-10, An Act to amend the Contraventions Act and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, be not now read a third time but that it be read a third time this day six months hence.?. The debate continued. Qwiz |

Am I surprised?
No. <big sigh> Footdragging. A long standing political tradition in North America. Do the two members floating this amendment have large distilleries in their districts? Red Deer... Isn't that in central Alberta? What...the barley growers afraid that the cannabis smokers will stop getting a beer buzz? Don't they _know_? Well, let's just say I'd like to be there when you get stoned. It won't be celebratory at this point. godfry |

So they 'resumed consideration' - does this mean that they are currently deciding whether or not to shelve the bill until 6 months from now, or that they HAVE shelved it?

Hello all,
I started germinating my seeds for this year’s adventure. Blueberry will be the seed of choice this year. I used two china / ceramic bread plates that are the same size and 12 paper towels, 6 like a bed underneath and 6 above the seeds. I placed the dozen sheets on the first plate and placed the second plate upside down on the first plate in a clamshell fashion. I cut the over hang of the paper towels so they were slightly smaller than the plates. I removed 6 of the now round paper towels and used a spray bottle at room temp to moisten the 6 paper towels on the bottom. I sprayed them so they were good and wet but not so they drown the seeds. I placed the seeds on the paper towels as well as a piece of wool to help me find the seeds without destroying the paper towels when I wanted to peak to see how they are progressing. I then placed the 6 remaining dry sheets on top of those and proceeded to spray those sheets so they were good and wet too. I covered the plate and all the paper towels with the second plate. Again in clamshell fashion, I closed off any light that would hit the seeds. Light could not get to the seeds but the air and excess heat could escape. I used an old monitor as an incubator, making sure it was level so no water would drip into the vent and plugged it in and left it on. I placed the plates on top of the monitor, which will produce the desired heat to germinate the seeds. In the past I used a dinner plate to set on the monitor and set my seed germinating plates on top of that just in case I run into a brain spasm along the way and blow up my monitor. I carefully removed the plates twice a day from the monitor by covering it with a cloth. I check the paper towels for dampness first thing in the morning and last thing before bed. I was careful not to let the moisture from the top plate drip anywhere but back on to the bottom plate. It’s important that the paper towels and the seeds don’t dry-out, as this could be disastrous. I would re-spray as needed with water that was room temperature, set the top plate back and wipe any water that may be on the outside of the plate before I set the little babies back on their nice warm spot. I’m a little early with the germination process this year because I have fluorescent grow lights that will get me through the next step when I plant my germinated seeds into the pots. I will let you know how it grows. Qwiz |

Nice going Qwiz. Does this mean you have little to fear from the Canadian authorities?
I always preferred the ol' seed in the dirt routine myself :P |
