As an atheist, apart from enjoying girls to kiss, flowers to see, lands to travel..., I also enjoy discovering the reality and truth.
I also enjoy reading Earl. Is something wrong with me?

I'm amused at the vituperation my well-meant comments have produced. I regret that I cannot explain to you why your posts make me smile, but they do.

All the best,

Yawn. More condescension.

There was nothing wise or interesting about what you said, despite the fact that you are obviously pleased with yourself.

You were just concern trolling. And it's boring.

But did not the Christian called Marcion claim Jesus was a Phantom and did not Christians believe him since the 2nd century?

Jesus was presented as a myth, even Christians believed.

And what about the Christian called Valentinius? He presented Jesus as some kind of mythical figure.

Jesus was presented as a myth since the 2nd century by mutiple Christians.

Jesus can be considered a myth unless history is erased.

See the writing called "Against Heresies" by Irenaeus.

There was nothing "well-meant" about your comments and you know it. We all know it. Why bother with such obvious pretense?

No explanation is necessary to anyone familiar with your posts or the personality they appear to represent.

Keep up the good work making Christians look bad, Roger.

Meanwhile in the actual discussion...

You were doing so well until that last bit. . .

Couldn't resist.

Boy, it is always fun seeing academics with an axe to grind make passive aggressive comments about each other under the guise of amiable teasing.

What's sad is that all this academic research will never reach the simpleton in the back pew of the mega-church, and the evangelistic pastors will never go out of their way to let their sheeple in on the latest developments in biblical history...

The myth will continue, unchecked, and will cloud the judgment of future generations as children continue to be mindwiped and brainwashed to believe in magic people in the sky...

People WANT to be brainwashed, it's not passive victimhood ("there's a sucker born every minute") - like a drug pusher, merchants of falsehood always have a ready market

The human brain seems to be wired to cogitate on unreality more than reality - maybe God has an answer to that one

As others have said of Doherty's work - he can establish a good POSITIVE case for why Christianity started as a hellenistic mystery religion.

It isn't just lack of evidence for the historical Jesus, but evidence for the Mystery Religion Christmyth hypothesis.
The church fathers list and attempt to refute every conceivable sect that did not align with their sarcicists beliefs. Which sects correspond to the the "Church of the Mythical Christ?".
