I've read a little bit about it but not a whole lot. If I understand correctly the Catholics, Russian Orthodox, and some other sects refer to it. But most Xtian sects don't.
What's the history behind it? Were they books that almost made into the Bible but didn't? |

I would recommend reading this page:
http://www.infidels.org/library/mode...r/NTcanon.html Generally, what are called protestants do not consider the Apocrypha part of the Holy Cannon. But there are other smaller sects out there that also hold a slightly different set as well, such as the Syriac churches and Ethiopian. We are generally very Eurocentric on these issues as well, so it's ignored. Also there are many catholics, but I'm sure you are referring to the Roman Catholics. Yes there were many books that almost made it, and several that almost didn't. Maybe the most infamous is Revelations. Several sects fought against it's inclusion, and some still don't accept it. Even Martin Luther questioned it's inspiration. Well that is a very short start for a very general question. DK |
