Hey, I dig Emmet Fox! I was a New Thought Christian for a long time and really liked his stuff. I never really "rejected" New Thought, just kind of grew out of it and I have no hard feelings for it.

If you're quoting Fox, miata, I'd say you're exaggerating a bit when you say you hate ALL religion...

I'm sorry to hear that someone is repeatedly holding a gun to your head and forcing you to frequent an atheism forum. Have you considered calling the police?

We are not commanded to force the Word of God on those who don't want to hear it. Miata obviously doesn't want to hear it.

Are you privy to some universal knowledge about the ultimate truth, that you would like to let us in on, or is that just your hateful opinion that everyone who believes in God are deceptive liars?
I think miata's point was that none of us is privy to universal knowledge or ultimate truth. But only the religious claim to be.

I'm curious, Magus, why do you come here if you so dislike atheists?

Thanks you Treadkill. I don't think Magus knew this was an atheist forum. Don't they have any hollier than thou sites. When I visited a fundie site they on ezforums they told me to get lost go away now ect.

I hope Magus will stay with us as he or she is a hoot. I do stand up and I have used some of the Magus material and brought down the house. I do my former preacher thing but make it more funny than fundie. I hope I can use your last post.

I am searching for God but he is not in the Bible or under my bed or in head. I think he's dead.

PLEASE forgive me I forgot that I gave up this thread to Magus. He or she follows me all over this message board. Check it out. I think I have been clear and honest I am not into religion in a serious way, but would like to discuss atheist ideas with all and not troll for fundies. I love people but i am not a Christian and I avoid them as often as I can. If I wanted to be abused by God I would join a church and give them all my money for jesus who is always broke. All TV preacher are broke no matter how much they take in. I live near THE OLD PTL club in SC and they were always broke.

Take it away Magus I'll start over. I may just leave the entire message board as I don't know how to say I am hotile to religion. HOSTILE and if I am not welcome to post on the Magus boards I'll to another forum. Write the moderator and turn me in for being honest. I don't want to be preached to and that is why I came here to find other people who are not saved.

I have a degree in theology but I don't want to get too serious. Atheist just want to have fun not fundies.

Magus if you look at the name of this thread you have proven my point so have it your way and thanks.

Default theists are a hoot

I'm pretty sure some of the theists on this forum play devil's advocate, or tongue-in-cheek on their own beliefs. They may not actually be committed theists or spiritualists.

This is a horrible waste of time to debate with a fastasy. I have pink elephants in my office but I don't discuss them here.
You're the one coming out with the I know all God's are false, and theists are liars statement. And if there is no need to discuss any false religion with anyone, why are you here?

As Magus55 pointed out, many religious people share their faith and try to convert others because their beliefs require it. They think you're doomed to torment if you don't accept their views, and would rather you didn't suffer. In that sense, it's an act of kindness on their part.

In a broader sense, it's very common for people to share their ideas with others and to try to convince others that their ideas are correct. If I can convince others to accept my ideas, it validates my ideas, in a sense. For some people to feel 'right', they have to convince others that they're 'wrong'. This isn't merely confined to religious belief, either. A co-worker of mine once spent considerable time trying to convince me that the South Beach diet was the only way to go for weight loss. This despite the fact (which she was aware of) that I had lost 80 pounds through exercise and balanced eating. Political discussions often go this route too.

Fortunately, I'm not preached at very often. When I am, I don't really mind too much, since I know that the people who do this generally mean well. The Christians I know are generally polite and tactful, too, which helps.

But I understand your frustration. Sometimes it would be nice if people could just leave each other alone. Unfortunately, too much of that would mean too little personal interaction for some of us.

Which church? Your's, Magus55? I certainly hope not, but then how long has your Church been around mid-80's perhaps?
Uh, Magus55, miata is quoting Ferdinand Magellan 1480-1521, do you think that Magellan was just making up the fact that the Church said the earth was flat... oh wait that was the Katholic Church who ruled at the time, way before 1611.
Come on hit me with all your mis-quotes from Isaiah...

Thank you AGRESSOR, I did not have the heart to point out that the church also said the Earth the center of the solar system. I refuse to argue with a brick wall so I'll hope some folks will look in from time to time and make a point as you have.

The greatest tragedy in mankind's entire history may be the hijacking of morality by religion.
Arthur C. Clarke

I am not sure anyone would appreciate me saying how much harm I have seen religion do. As a retired minister I am so sorry that I lied to so many poor people; many who are now dead and I cannot say I am sorry to. I wish there was a god to take care of us just like I believed in Santa but I cannot stomach any more false religious dogmas.

I promised Magus i would leave her board but I looked in and wanted to thank you. Magus may not know about Magellan but I am not going to tell him or her
as I would be called hostile. [removed] So I had better get out of here as I am sure Jerry Falwell and Pat robertson are getting ready to send in their attack dogs.

Exclamation

A moderator already asked that this conversation be kept civil. As it doesn't look as though anyone took notice, I am closing this this thread.
