I am surprised that no one has asked this obvious question, which occured to me from the outset and partly prompted my first post re jesus speak.

Usually the mods jump on anything which is not BC&H. Why have they not done so in this instance?

It is very relevant to BC&H.

We are trusting that Chris will establish the link when he reveals the answer. Of course, we could be wrong. In which case, the thread will be gone.

I think grace period is over. Give him one day to disclose or the boot. I say this only because of my burning curiosity to find out!

I would have hoped that, as several posters made clear, the link would have been obvious.

It looks like a fairly modern patische or a very loose paraphrase of Paul, esp. Phil 3:7-16. As spin noted, there's some 1 Cor 13 in it as well.

Well apparently everything I said was wrong if it has to do with the Bible! :-P

I don't see the Phillipians though. I don't see any indication of a desire for the reader to imitate the author in the posted text either, nor does the author seem to be trying to convince the reader of anything; indeed, he seems to be practically writing to himself in writing to someone else.

Well, that's what Chris promised us!

There are some correspondences within Philippians.

For I'm not great. I'm a fraud. I'm a phony., compare with Phil. 3:7-8 ("But these things [scil. Paul's Jewish credentials of vv.3-6] ... I regard as crap.").

For a perfectionist who'll never become perfect., see 3:12 ("I have not already been made perfect").

For even though I know that to die is to gain, perhaps I can still live longer before I go, see 1:21-22 ("For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain, but if to live in the flesh, that is productive work for me....")

Pastiche has two senses. I meant the sense of "hodge-podge", not "imitation."

Is it a paraphrase, like the Message?

I think you mean to ask,

"Is it a paraphrase, as bad as 'the Message'?"
