Default Lord save me from Colorado Christian radio!!!!

I rarely visit the U.S., so I apologize for being naive, but is fuggin' Christian radio everywhere? I almost got in car accidents in Colorado because everytime I pushed "SCAN" on my car radio, the station would hit on some kind of Christian crap posing as rock. None of them come out and say "This is Christian radio!". Worse, most of the songs seem to try to intentionally mislead people by NOT clearly mentioning God, Jesus, or whatever until like the end of the song. If you don't listen carefully it might take up to two really crappy songs before you realize you are being had.

The DJ might say something like "This is your positive alternative" or some other coded crap, but otherwise the general bland badness of it all is the only indication of what it is.

Are these people too embarrassed by their product to speak of it up front? What kind of music relies on tricking listeners into putting up with it? Neither the bands or the DJ's seem to be quite bring themselves around to upfront admitting that this is Christian rock. Country stations aren't embarrassed to say "this is Country 810 (or whatever)". Why won't Christian rock stations mention the C, G, or J words???

At one point I was so disgusted by enduring two or three songs by accident that I stopped to get coffee- and the coffee shop was playing Christian rock!!!

Or is this just Colorado (home of James Blobson's "Focus on the Family")?

It's worse here than in many places. And even on the 'secular' stations, the megachurches advertise in order to reach the 'unchurched'. The advantage of living in the middle of it is that I have my pre-set stations and already know where the christiany ones are to avoid. I listened to the christian rock for years as a christian, and I kinda have an ear for it and it's pretty easy to tune past it.

Welcome to the good ol' US of A, brother! The answer is a resounding YES. This is what Christians don't get when they ask us "why do you bother fighting against something you don't believe exists?" -- they inundate us with this crap, everywhere you go ... radio, TV, billboards, church signs on every corner, their T-shirts. Hell, I can't even take a piss without reading "Are you ready to MEET GOD?!" on a christian tract left on the urinal for me.

And btw, if you think it's bad in Colorado, try out the Southeast sometime. We call it the "bible belt". :frown:

If you knew all the code words, you wouldn't be so bothered by it. We US heathens know what to avoid since we understand the code words.

Actually, I think there is only one FM Xian rock station in the greater Atlanta area and they use the Jesus fish as their symbol. They are very obvious about what they are.

I've become so insensitized to the fundies, that I rarely notice them anymore. Xian symbols are just very deeply ingrained in the US culture, more in some places than in others. Eventually you learn to ignore them, or at times be amused.

As long as they are spending their own money, I really don't care unless I'm in the dentist's office or some public place and they are tuned in to that dreadful stuff. It might be a coincidence but I made a sarcastic comment once about the Xian music in my dentist's office and the last two times I was there, they were playing secular music. Maybe somebody decided that there might just be a few patients that weren't Xian who would prefer not to hear that dogma while they were waiting for dental work. At least I hope so.
