You see it everywhere that Christians gather in abundance--Right to Life marches, football games, campaign rallys, etc. Someone holds up a sign or wears a T-shirt that says "John 3:15," which reads "That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life." I think secularists should pick an embarrassing verse out of the Bible and try to make that as ubiquitous as John 3:15. But which verse should we hold up on our signs?
Here is my vote: Exodus 29:20. It reads: "Then shalt thou kill the ram, and take of his blood, and put it upon the tip of the right ear of Aaron, and upon the tip of the right ear of his sons, and upon the thumb of their right hand, and upon the great toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about." It has everything--animal sacrifices, blood rituals, pointless ceremonial detail, and a profound silliness. What Christian wouldn't be annoyed at having to stop and explain to somebody what that verse is and means, if it keeps showing up in crowd scenes on TV? But maybe I'm missing the boat and there are far better verses out there. So does anyone have any better suggestions as to what the one definitive Bible verse is, that secularists should latch on to as a comeback to John 3:15? |

My quote of 3:15 is accurate, and I'm certain I've seen it. It could be 3:16, but it says basically the same thing.

a good source
Dt 22:12 "do not wear clothing made one part of linen and one part of some other cloth." Dt 23:1 "a man who's testicles have been crushed or penis has been cut off, must not be admitted into the congregation of the lord." 1Cor: 11:6 "If a woman goes without a veil, let her hair be cut off, too." Ac20:9 "as Paul went on and on, a young man named Eutychus who was sitting on the window sill grew drowsy and was overcome by sleep and fell to the ground three floors below. He was picked up dead." |

I'm quite partial to Isaiah 45:7, KJV(my emphasis):

Well, here's the origin of the 3:16 sign carriers. It seems to be a suitably odd start for an odd behaviour like this.

My favorite: Psalms 137:9
"A blessing on anyone who seizes your babies and shatters them against a rock." |
