Wrong to prevent people from perpetuating falsehoods? well i don't know. I have nothing wrong with 'ordinary' thinking Christians .. I know lots of them online and they are nice people. But SHOULD we let people teach their children that the world is 600, oops sorry 6000 (that extra nought makes it so much more credible) years old? that God created it in 6 days? that neanderthal man didn't exist? that all scientists are liars?

I suppose there's a fine line between safeguarding free speech and allowing idiocy. Free speech I am all in favour of.

of course they - the fundies - think that I am smug too . And who knows, maybe they're even right - shoot me - maybe I am. I am receptive to a lot of new ideas but not theirs. Does that make ME narrow minded? Serious question.

I think she'll be more concerned about first bit of your post than this

Anyway, leave them alone you sick facist bastard!

Note: This post is a joke, humour, fun, mirth, lightheartedness, a giggle, a laugh. If you warn me for this I will convert to fundamentalism and plague your inbox with conversion attempts.

You think Sal's are bad? You ain't seen shit, yet son!

I think painting a large group of people -- who, incidentally, would probably not classify themselves in the same reductionist, facile manner -- with one brush is narrow-minded and smug, yes. Saying that you hate them and that they be put in a zoo probably qualifies as well, although I'd characterize that more as good old fashioned vitriol.

No line at all, or one of negative thickness.

Well I can only say that they bugged me first.

I started posting on Christian message boards because I was searching for God. I have ended up loathing a large group of people whom I didn't know existed before. What does THAT indicate, do you think?

According to one of the fundies who initiated this post of mine, I am going straight to hell.. that was her contribution today, though I have not and will not post on that forum again. So who was the aggressor first?

You think I am facile? I wouldn't say so. I would be facile if I judged these people without ever having tried to talk to them, to understand them. Well, I've spent five or six years on Christian message boards, trying to do just that. I went in feeling that i wanted the Christian God to exist.. that I wanted to find Him. I came out hoping that if He's out there, He'll come down and remove these fuckwits from the face of the planet asap.

Facile?

No, I don't think so. To me, being open minded doesn't mean that you will believe every idea to come along -- that would just be foolish!

To me, being open minded just means that you will make an attempt to understand alternate points of view and consider them. But, you clearly understand Christianity, have considered it, and have rejected it. Many religious types (my dad calls them "religos"), on the other hand, are often rejecting without consideration or understanding. And certainly not respect.

Of course, there are narrow minded people on both sides of any coin, but I have not ever read any of your posts to come off as smug or narrow minded.
