When I was about 10 years old, I told my younger brother: "If you make one more noise, I'm going to hit you!"
Of course, he eventually made a noise, so I slugged him. Guess what happened? I got in trouble. I told my parents "But I warned him!" They were not amused, to say the least. In order to call something "fair warning", the warning must be clear, credible, and it must warn of a FAIR consequence for the action. The mythology you believe in, hokowo, doesn't pass ANY of those three tests. The warning is NOT clear, it really, REALLY isn't credible, and it promises an obviously UNFAIR consequence for the action. When I was little, my parents taught be the basics of morality. Didn't your parents do the same with you, hokowo? |

Boy, it would take a lot for me to see something as fair warning.
Several years ago, maybe 15 years after I became an atheist, I was walking home and actually saw a roughly 200-foot-tall Jesus hovering in the clouds. He was weeping in ecstacy, so I started to weep in a similar fashion. It was really quite an experience. He didn't warn me of any impending doom, he just smiled at me for a bit and made me feel good. The vision ended, and a few hours later the LSD wore off and I became myself again. Sooooo....If I actually did see the J-Man riding down from the sky on a white horse, wielding a flaming sword; I would likely enjoy the show and write it off as an acid flashback. My choices: A: Christian Mythology is literally true, and JC has returned. or B: Chemical imbalance in my head. Occam's razor dictates that I choose Explanation B. Establishing credibility for the warning would be almost impossible, but that shouldn't be a problem for a truly omnipotent deity. |
