Default Why Was the Manner That Jesus Died So Important?

Why did it have to be death on a cross?

What if Jesus said, "Well disciples, it's been fun but see ya!" and he jumped off the nearest cliff?

Or what if he took a carpenter's saw and told Judas, "Just saw off my head and get it over with?" I don't know about you, but wouldn't the disciples carrying around the head of a decapitated Jew while Jesus is STILL able to talk be more of a miracle to the Romans?

Or if he stuck a sword in the ground and just jumped onto it face first?

Why did it HAVE TO be crucifixion?

He's been compared to the innocent lamb, led to slaughter. Of course the Greek image of the protecting sheepherder carrying the calf/lamb around his neck was literally carved into stone a good thousand years prior but who wants to nitpick about stolen images when it comes to the Savior of the world.

Anyway, He needed to suffer so badly because he was paying for everyone's sins. That's Everyone. Then, and into the future, including now. And now that you've rejected him, even though he suffered so badly for YOU, you should fall to your knees and ask for forgiveness; and bring the doughnuts and coffee to church on Sunday. That oughta set you right in His eyes. Jesus loves a good maple bar and likes his coffee black, so bring extra for Him.

Too bad Gitmo wasn't in existence back then. He could have suffered for months on end. Just think how forgiven we could all be. (I'm not stalking you. )

That would have been a better story, with the only real disadvantage being that Mel Gibson would have had to have made an entire series of films based on the subject.

Another thing I thought.

If he had to die for our sins, this means God planned it right? So, God planned to have Pilate crucify him and Judas betray him and the Romans hate him. After all, he has to get someone to do the crucifixion, right?

If Judas had decided to not betray Jesus, would Jesus have said "Hold on Judas! Timeout. Stop the cameras for a second. You're fuckin' up the show. You have to betray me or else I can't be turned over to be crucified. Now, give me the meanest betrayal you can think of! Annnnnnnnnnnnnd...........action!"

Jesus was created as a resistance figure against the Roman occupation. Resistors to the Romans were crucified.

As the Jesus figure became adapted to very different belief paradigms (culminating in modern Christianity), the crucifixion part probably stuck because it's the part of a story one is likely to remember.

Because it would look funny as hell, people walking around with little guillotines on their lapels and on chains around their necks.

Had he been executed in modern USA, we would have Our Lady of the Holy Hypodermic Needle or people driving around with tiny electric chairs affixed to their dashboards.

Aesthetics, man, aesthetics.

That would be kind of weird if he was poisoned to death, huh? People walking around in public places with viles of poison attached to a necklace wouldn't seem too safe, would it?

Dude! Skull-and-crossbones jewelry would be so cool it would make it almost worth reconverting!
