Popular science has a produced another list of the worst jobs in science. linky
One of particular interest is #3: Kansas Biology Teacher. It's apparently not as bad (and probably similar in some respects) to the 2nd worst job: manure inspector. Enjoy! (If anyone here does any of these jobs, do tell!) Didn't know if this is best here or in S&S, mods please decide! |

Not exactly a manure inspector, but I'm submitting a grant which involves going to a number of different farms to collect bacterial samples, which includes samples from manure. It's been funny calling up farmers and seeing if they'd let me sample on their farm: "you want to do what?"

I worked at a lab as an ICP technician back in grad school. One technician there spent 8-hours a day 5 days a week for several weeks sitting at a fume hood and digesting human feces for testing in the ICP.
Once it came around to the ICP it was just a clear acidic liquid, but for the poor woman who prepped the samples she sat at the fume hood all day with a towel over her mouth and a can of Lysol air freshner in the other hand. -h. |
