Please, Please, Please!!! Claudius was the Emperor of Rome AFTER Caligula who was AFTER Tiberius and is WELL OUTSIDE the time line of the Gospel of John. The Gospel of John ENDS after the resurrection and BEFORE the day of Pentecost during the reign of Tiberius. And now LOOK at the "Demonstration of Apostolic Preaching" attributed to Irenaeus. Quote:

The writings under the name of Irenaeus are NOT at all historically Credible. And now examine the link from David Trobisch. It is NOT a co-incidence that Irenaeus was claimed to be from France. |

If Jesus appeared crucified in 27 CE Irenaeus's reconciliation of the synoptics with a near fifty year old crucified Jesus can be reconciled with both statements. Whether or not Irenaeus is a 'bogus writer' we have to understand him if we want to understand the surviving New Testament material as it was necessarily passed along to a large degree by him. It doesn't matter what the historical truth is with respect to Irenaeus. We need only deal with what might have been possible according to his understanding of historical events.

But, you MUST be a JOKER. You DON'T accept as the historical truth what the Church writers wrote about YOUR MARK. |

Amico

For those who don't know what I am talking about. Here are some typical Ugo Tognazzi films from the period
Ugo Tognazzi is probably best known to American audiences from his role in the original Bird Cage (La Cage Aux Folles) |

What do you think? It just seemed better than engaging aa for the millionth time on the same points (Irenaeus misrepresents the truth THEREFORE his testimony is invalidated). I bet it's the first time Ugo Tognazzi's been brought up in the forum. If you'd like I could start a thread on Claudia Cardinale's exegesis of the Pauline corpus or Marcello Mastroianni on Q? Fellini's Satyricon and the gospel narrative?

OK! ... Thanks anyway! Ugo Tognazzi was a great actor, well-versed in comic and brilliant roles, and sometimes even dramatics. One of these films 'comic-dramatics', very well done, was 'Il Federale', set at the end of the fascist era. I do not know how many times I saw it, and every time I had fun like it was the first one! Greetings Littlejohn . |
