I agree that flaming is bad, but I don't believe it necessarily shows a personal insecurity in one's beliefs. Some posters are just so damn frustrating that some posters lose it with them after a while; for example in repeating an argument or assertion ad nauseum that has been thoroughly rebutted time and again (sometimes, as in a recent experience I had here on a thread, claiming that their assertion "has not been answered"). After the umpteenth rational response to an assertion, it's hard not to flame the poster for continuously bringing it up like it hasn't already been thoroughly dealt with.
Maybe you just never dealt with it in a convincing enough manner?

For your pennance, you can go and read all of my other posts ... all 5,000+ of them.

Actually, when we post in a topic and don't indicate that we are exercising supervisory authority, then we are just like any other poster. My views about the existence of God(s) don't gain in authority because of my status as user number one (1). That would be a recognized fallacy.

How many times do atheists have to cowtow to Magus and his ilk? The religion they follow is continually seeking 'Validity" in science and yet science has, of yet, NEVER sought 'validity' in religion!

Thanks for the comments and insight.

For Bill and Jobar: Both of you seem to have interpreted my comments as being about your roles on this board. Actually, it was just a coincidence that I chose excerpts from your posts.

My main point was about the frustration of attempting to get certain points across to certain theists, and about the possibility of avoiding frustration.

Obviously, it is our choice to debate, and it can be enjoyable and satisfying. This forum exists because there are theists. If theists didn't exist, would be it be necessary to create them?

Cool hey hey hey

Internet Infidels was the organization that deconverted me. I was a Church of Christ member thinking seriously about going into their ministry after graduating from college. I had parts of gospels and ten whole epistles (or was it eight?) memorized for this endeavor.

J.F. Till also gets a lot of credit. Both the posters here and Till were very kind in calming my fears and answering my questions.
