My pub library has a copy of the Golden Bough from the 50s. But they seem to hang on to a lot of old crap. Insufferably racist, that book was. Shocking. Yet, I forced myself to read the whole thing. Forced my husband to listen to the worst bits.

I'm sure you could get a copy from Inter Library Loan.

Better yet, get T.H. Gaster's abridged version, The New Golden Bough (1959).

You can get the entire book online excepting the footnotes, on numerous sites. I don't have a lot of need to read just the footnotes, I was just curious about this particular epithet, so the online copies suffice for my needs.
