Well, then you shouldn't use anything that is provided by the government. You shouldn't be allowed to enter public parks, use public libraries, drive on public streets, use public transportation, walk on public sidewalks, use publicly treated water and use municipal sewage facilities, obtain publicly provided health care, receive any welfare or social security benefits, avail yourself of the courts, receive the protection or assistance of the criminal justice system, etc.

You should also immediately refund all money that has been spent on your public education, public health care, and use of public goods to date.

Indeed, you should immediately forfeit your right to use the internet (created with public funds), the phone (regulated and perhaps in the UK even run by the government), the mail (a government agency), the right to watch or listen to the BBC, etc.

Are you sure you really want to abolish taxes?

ONLY regressive taxes would remain! And user fees!

The state has NO right to forcibly and DIRECTLY take a person's income!

Perhaps we would all be better off if Meritocrat did not have to pay any taxes at all, while at the same time have to pay out of his pocket any expense he incurs for the rest of his life, be it education, medical, retirement or any other form of subsidies. That way he would not be a burden upon the rest of us, and he would not be able to complain if he happened to have some misfortune enter his life. Of course, this should apply to his children as well[1] (current or future, if any), to keep it fair in comparison with other parents who are willing to pay taxes for said services. If Meritocrat finds this amenable, perhaps he will also agree with a repayment plan for any debt owed that he has accumulated thus far (education comes to mind). I won't accept the argument "it has already been paid for by taxes". I'd much rather see the repayment to set the record straight. Otherwise, if taxes were good enough for his past needs, they should good enough for his future needs. Since he appears to believe quite firmly in his statements and their implications, I doubt he'll find this unreasonable.

[1] I do not wish this situation upon any child. I'm just making an argument.

Yes it DOES for services PROVIDED!

You use public services and you have to help maintain and improve them, so either shut it or move to somewhere where you would be happier.

OK, but how do we pay for police, fire dept, military etc?

Do you favor a sales tax or fair tax of some sort?

YOU only have YOUR job because of the government.

YOU only HAVE property because the GOVERNMENT says YOU have.

THAT'S why YOU pay them MONEY.

As I said some regressive taxes should replace income tax!

Only the police, armed forces, courts, roads and fire services would be owned by the state!
