Am I the only Christian on this board? Mongrel I was just messing with you. I will come back and address your post as best as I can. Then I have to write a post to Soul then Wetall and whoever else is after me.

You have a good evening.

I think you're the only one on this thread, but you could hop over to EoG and watch Theophilus have is his arguments torn to shreds

Edited to correct typo. Damn this small laptop and my big fingers

Hey Mongrel, I'll do both you and hope's daughter the favour of answering your post with the appropriate response:

GODDIDIT

There ya go! Off to bed now, it's getting late.

We will talk about the myth thing okay. I am still having a hard time believing you are for real.
Be as cheeky as you wish, by all means. However, if you can manage to take the time to carve out the above response it is certainly not beyond your humble abilities to address my post as I did yours in good faith.

I appreciate the sentiment espoused behind the blessing of your god but I neither require nor desire any from him. I thank you to respect that in the future.

You're right that I don't mind

I don't think it fair the King of the Rats gets off scotts free.
Scot free? What am I getting off Scot free from? I've gone way out of my way to illustrate problems with your position, you went so far as to say that you agreed with my assertions.

I truly love your post. I might just agree with every single point you have made but then what you need to believe has more to do with a supernatural intervention than logic filled explanation.
That means we are done, you conceded. You must mean I'm getting off Scot free from any meaningful counter from you, that would make at least a lick of sense.

Do you ever think before you type?

King Rat,

I use might in the same way my Mother used maybe when she was telling me no. The word 'might' is no certainty. One of the advantages of being on these boards is being able to see through the eyes of the atheist to better understand this mind set on many issues. So really I am not agreeing to anything.

I would never give in to your view point that there is no God when I know emphatically there is and He has communicated with me.

Which is why I've been waiting for you to quantify your qualifier.

Let me help you out, again. People on this board value data, facts, and logic. You must use data, facts, and logic to make your case. If you witness without data, facts, and logic to back you up you look stupid. If you make assertions without data, facts, and logic, you convince no-one. If you mock data, facts, and logic, you mock the majority of people on this board. If you ask an imaginary deity to bless us with no data, facts, or logic, to bolster said deities existence, you insult our intelligence. When you ignore data, facts, and logic in favor of fantasy, you appear deluded. When you come to an atheist board armed with neither data, facts, or logic in hopes of furthering your xian point of view, you appear worse than deluded.

Pure delusion distillate.

Well it depends on if it is true. Atheist do have a lot incommon including disbelieving God.

Here is the problem, as I see it. You claim christ is not a myth, but what evidence do we have to substantiate that claim? Perhaps if we are to believe unsubtantiated claims, we should all become raelians, or something?
How can Jesus be a myth when not only are the witnesses of the gospels supportive of this but outside sources to the gospel are supportive of Jesus' ministry and life and not all of them complementary.

No, I don't pray. Why would I pray to a being I don't think exists?
My suggestion was to help you with discernment of the Biblical text which you have a difficult time believeing. If you have not tried prayer in this manner than how can you critisize and claim is does not work?

I was raised to make up my own mind on this and every other subject. The choice I made wasn't a popular one in my family(when I was around 12-13 years old), but it was respected. It had nothing to do with any institution I've ever been involved in. If anything, they encouraged a belief in xianity, so I was going against the grain a bit. I've seen no reason to change my opinions on religion since.
I am sorry to have read the above words. This is not pity but dismay.

No, I'm the type who dismisses extraordinary claims, which don't have any credible evidence to back them up.
Yoiu have already made up your mind without allowing the gospel evidence to penetrate you. The Bible is seeped in history.

Quote:
Can you also see the similarity between what you claim, and what John and Mary claim? There's no real difference, from what I can see.
I would be interested in what similarities you refer to. If you mean I respect and fear GOD. I do.

Quote:
You're quite correct- I would have a hard time proving you exist. For starters, it appears we live on opposite sides of the planet, and I don't have the means to travel that far.

But, I stated your existence is provable, not that it is provable by me.
Well maybe charades should not be played by humans. I am quite real. I know that prior to my existence there was my mother and father and on and on until we have the first Man and woman before them was God because it would be a inconsistant idea that we come form no where. That the universe was dictaded by chance. Chance is not a Creator but it makes a good story, a good myth.

[qoute]As for a bunch of monkeys typing, I would simply file any claim to that effect in with all other wild unsubtantiated claims. Unless, of course, it could be proven...[/quote]

I was refering to an experiment that was done several months back.

Also, and I'll have to check up on this, but I believe the only written account of somebody named Jesus who was supposedly a messiah(as is the meaning of the word christ) from around that time and place, were second- or third-hand accounts re-written by someone who also claimed(in some of his other writings) that(paraphrasing) it is ok to lie to further the interests of the church. Let me see if I can find that again.
Do you trust the reading of the Iliad, Shakespear? We have less copies of these than we do the NT. The NT is well documented far beyond any book of antiquity. It was written soon after Jesus' death and resurrection. Let me give you some names and corroboratting evidence. You can look these up. Open your free thinking mind to what I type to you: The first is Josephus who was a jew and a first century historian wrote about Jesus' life, miricales, death and ressurection. We also have Tacitus a Roman historian and also Pliny the Younger. Also the writtings of Thallus' which we no loner pocess where mentioned byJulius Africanus and spoke of the darkness that over took the sky when Chrits was crucified. One last thing the Talmud mentions Jesus.

Of course these are contested. Anything to do with Christ is hotly debated. Can you not see why this would be so?

Quote:
That may be so. But I was talking about the people who post on these boards. Many here have a very high degree of knowledge(I'm not including myself in this group, either) of scipture, and have dismissed it as myth.
Yes I have seen some with a very high degree of knowledge but if one is to examine the Bible with the sole intent to prove the Bible wrong...well. If one really takes an open mind and applies it to the text along with the historical evidence this is a more reasonable route to go.

Tacitus claimed that the beaches of England were covered in mounds of pearls, and that barbarian inhabitants were too stupid to realise their value and gather them.

Tacitus never visited England.

Just because parts of the bible are historically accurate doesn't mean you can take all of it as literally true.
