They say he was a tent maker. The word used really means canvas worker. Maybe he was in the business of erecting canvas billboards.

Maybe the archaeologists should be looking for Christian tent relics in the epoch that the nation of christians wandered in search of their basilicas and their holy land and their pigrimages thereto? Perhaps Eusebius was divinely inspired when he compares Constantine and Moses? BTW when is the ETA for this new Bart Ehrman Historical Jesus acceditation event?
ETA 11/2011

My prophecy is that it will cover no new ground, diss the JMers and just lead to more discussion here.

Was JonA refering to Bart Erhman when he said "A lot of his theology is just marketing, and he was good at it"?

My prophecy is that it may shoot itself in the foot.

From Forged

Bart D. Ehrman, the New York Times bestselling author of Jesus, Interrupted and God’s Problem reveals which books in the Bible’s New Testament were not passed down by Jesus’s disciples, but were instead forged by other hands—and why this centuries-hidden scandal is far more significant than many scholars are willing to admit. A controversial work of historical reporting in the tradition of Elaine Pagels, Marcus Borg, and John Dominic Crossan, Ehrman’s Forged delivers a stunning explication of one of the most substantial—yet least discussed—problems confronting the world of biblical scholarship.

I doubt it nor will the JMers get a meaningful shot at it either. It will sell a lot of ebooks, be pirated a bunch and say nothing new. If the JMers cannot land a knockout punch on the status quo then this will be no different. It will reflect the status quo.

It seems the book is real, after all.

I assume it will cost you 6 dollars to read that Galatians 1:19 says that Paul met the brother of Jesus, so Jesus of Nazareth existed.

As a leading historicist, Ehrman naturally was unaware that Luke/Acts never makes any mention of Jesus having a brother called James.

Bart's first reaction was that everybody knew who the author was referring to.

As always, there is silence because everybody knew everything anyway....
How can I buy it in PDF or similar??
Calibre (http://calibre-ebook.com/) can convert multiple formats, so it's been essential for me and my iPad. It works on multiple systems too.

Default Right question?

Is "Did Jesus exist?" even the best question to ask? If we find out for sure that there was a guy named Jesus who was born in Nazareth ca 0, does that even answer one useful question about christianity, given that the accounts of Jesus' teachings and deeds may still be 90% fictional?

Well, if Jesus did NOT exist then that would have FULLY ANSWERED your questions. 100% of the teachings and deeds of Jesus would be fictional.

If Jesus did exist some percentage of your questions may still be unanswered.

Jesus of the NT, the Child of a Ghost, that was God and the Creator did NOT exist and did NOT say or do anything.

And the people who say there was ANOTHER Jesus provide ZERO sources for the teachings and deeds of THEIR OTHER Jesus.

But, in any event, perhaps the best question is "What is Ehrman talking about when he has ZERO sources for his OTHER Jesus"?

Most likely going to use the same lame arguments that most HJers use. Same old non historical sources etc, etc....have not been all that impressed by Erhman. Been a hard core Mythicists for some years now.

Ehrman's argument for HJ is just ridiculous.

Ehrman CASTIGATES William Craig for RELYING on the Gospels as historical sources and then uses the very same ADMITTED UNRELIABLE sources for HJ of Nazareth.

Ehrman can't get any worse than that.
