I meant to say, 'don't take it personally, some people really object to having their private space invaded, really or perceptually, and you don't know what sort of day she was having before you came along, maybe some freak tried to touch her up who listens to the same bands you do or something'. That is all.

Yes, but there was someone else already sitting on her other side (albiet another woman), and the seat was the only one available. She was really uppity too.

If she's rude to you like that, be rude back.

Personally, I would find it a perfect time to belch on command, loudly, in her direction. Of course, that could get you kicked out, so you may have to be more subtle. Maybe open up some IIDB threads with photoshop pictures of Jesus and laugh hysterically and obnoxiously.

Or, if she said that, just turn, glare at her for about six seconds, then turn to the screen and go about your business. If she has a problem with it... Fuck 'er.

Point out politely that it's the only available computer, and sit down to do your work. Returning rudeness for rudeness makes life more difficult than it needs to be. Any further rude comments on her part should be put off with "I'm sorry you feel that way." Or an incredulous stare coupled with "I'm sorry, I didn't hear that correctly." Repeated as needed.
