Actually, I think that does apply to the Passion narrative taken as a whole. And, yes, the potato-tossing between Romans and Jews does seem to be a reflection of the political situation.

Regardless, I think the accounts of the Trial are fiction. I will strike the "carefully wrought" part if you insist.
