He also compared Canaanites to dogs (and he didn't mean it affectionately) and was VERY strict on matters of divorce.

I do agree, however, that Jesus would certainly be regarded as liberal by the standards of his time.

"And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life."
– Matthew 19:29

"He that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one." – Luke.22:36

"Whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out ... And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off." – Matthew 5:28,30

AND THE PERFECT REPUBLICAN:
"For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath."

Don't ask me, I don't really care,

And it's five six seven open up your pearly gates
Ain't no time to wonder why,
To elsewhere it's gonna fly.
Be the first one on your block, to have your boy come home in a box.

Wow, haven't heard that one since the early 80's.

Is this really true? I don't recall Jesus ever really discussing dietary laws at all, and I certainly don't recall him talking about good old fashioned southern BBQ.

Where'd this one come from? Or is it just an exagerration?

Beautiful wisdom in that!

If you found out that Jesus wasn't really a liberal, would you change, or would you find another historical icon?
OK, maybe Jesus wasn't a "liberal", but don't you think it is a moot point? Personally I believe that he was a flaming liberal, but say to people that he was a liberal to get people to rethink what kind of person Jesus was. If Jesus really was a bleeding heart, then why do bigots like Pat Robertson or James Dobson like Jesus so much? I used to listen to Dobson's Focus on the Family every day, now I devote my time to exposing the Religious Reich. I don't believe that Dobson and Robertson really have their hearts right with God; I believe they are just spin doctors for the Republi-khan party.
