It's too bad that politicians don't duel and sword fight anymore like Aaron Burr & Alexander Hamilton.

My kid was telling me about 2 politicians in the Civil War that fought and the Southern guy first said he was too good to duel the Northern guy and then beat the Northern guy severely with a cane until the cane broke.

Actually, what happened was that the Southerner marched into the Northener's office and started hitting him on the head while the Northerner was sitting --- and trapped by his desk.
IIRC, he was knocked unconscious.
It was not a fair fight at all.

Actually, what happened was that Massachusetts antislavery Senator Sumner was attacked from behind and beaten on the floor of the Senate and crippled for life, by a relative of Senator Butler, from South Carolina, whom Sumner had attacked for being pro-slavery.
