Ok, so I'm a little stupid atm - I meant Dead Sea Scrolls. They were actually found by numerous people - first by shepards and the like who happened across caves and such, then by researchers as they came to light and were deliberately searched for. Just type 'Dead Sea Scrolls', 'Nag Hammadi Scrolls', 'Gnostic Gospels' or 'Gospel of Thomas' into a search engine or library catalogue and you'll find heaps of info

Of course, Nag Hammadi is in another country (Egypt), and the find there consists of codices (not scrolls), mostly Christian/Gnostic in content, which were in a sealed jar somewhere. The Dead Sea Scrolls were found in caves in southeast Israel.

Please don't mistake my smart-ass response for criticism. My typing mistakes and substantive mistakes (like ANE demons) are legion.

Appologies... I was simplifying things. They aren't scrolls - that's just the word usually used in the books/reports about them that I've found and the way they seem to be commonly identified. And they're from different places - I'm simply used to them being grouped together in the literature I've found, usually because there are references from different sets. I bow to your superiority, Peter Kirby.

Ah, but not every alleged discrepancy, being solidly an alleged discrepancy, is solid.

It was an ugly sentence either way.

Thumbs up

THE SET TIME HAS ELAPSED! (the discussion has been had)

I sincerely thank you all (especially Peter Kirby, and Diogenes the Cynic) for your time and effort, and the broad spectrum of subject matter discussed; from Peter Kirby’s ‘who begat whom?’ (and remedial grammar school), to venturing intellectually as far as the moist and murky depths of the Deep Sea Scrolls.

It is particularly enlightening for me in terms of discovering which alleged contradictions are most engaging for iidb hangers.

No I would certainly not like to attempt to demolish “all these alleged discrepancies. Even if I had the time (ATM I certainly don’t), and the inclination, I think you would have to start a new thread for each one (or at least each topic e.g. genealogy problems) to have a hope of focusing narrowly enough on a particular alleged discrepancy. It has however been very helpful in giving me a list of discrepancies to choose from when I decide to start a thread to debate one.

Thanks again all,

Regards LP

Forgot to say that this is where big fish bite and harbor a grudge.

Please report back and let us know how your encounter goes. Or, as you suggest, you can start new threads to discuss these items.

best,
Peter Kirby

The ‘encounter’ was a bit of an anticlimax. I didn’t broach the topic (as things went it wasn’t really appropriate). But please don’t think this was a wasted effort on anyone’s behalf, as I said earlier this thread has given me a lot of interesting material to peruse, and is a perfect starting point for more focused discussion in future threads (which I should only start when I have enough free time and energy to do justice).

Regards
