Not classifying your group as a religion not only gives it power to posess you further (Religion being the 'warning' or 'bogie' word that might put you off)....

....but also: not being classified as a religion makes your group seem more acceptable to your friends family and the media.
And I have indeed come to regard “not a religion” as a warning sign. It’s a sign the group considers itself more spiritually evolved than all others, the most complete way, and that the leadership of the group sets store on spiritual élitism, driving the membership into competition with each other, into a rat-race.

And those who say Wicca is not a religion deserve to be flogged. Like Skytoucher.

Hm. It seems that Falun Gong has made some strides in the West, oddly associated with the fact that it is so persecuted in China. I'd like to see it less persecuted by any government, though there's a big difference between wanting them let be and actually joining.

Western branches of traditions that are persecuted elsewhere are not above using the persecution to silence any opposition that might arise in the Western countries, or using their political status back home to gain adherents. It's natural to sympathise with those who are being jailed/tortured/discriminated against simply because of their beliefs. One would hope that eventually the Chinese Falun Gong can be freed, but one can hope that without thinking their doctrine is correct.

Glad to see you free of the external control tho, IAC.
