Greek: magdalia (shortened form of apomagdalia), "the crumb or inside of the loaf on which the Greeks wiped their hands at dinner then threw it to the dogs", hence; "dog's meat". Mark 7, 24-30 A Greek woman approaches Jesus and asks him to heal her daughter. He says: Let the children be satisfied first, for it is not good to take the childrens' bread and throw it to the dogs. She replies: Yes, Lord; and yet the dogs under the table eat from the crumbs of the children. |
