Paul explains why there is division among believers in 1 Corinthians 1:10-16 and 2 Corinthians 11:4-15. Then after you read that and know who the Holy Spirit is, then you'll be in a better position to decide if the bible contradicts itself.
Knupfer,
are you seriously going to try and defend the position that the bible does not contradict itself? I once wore those rose colored glasses myself but the contradictions eventually won out. This one about James and Paul was just one example for me.

Absolutely. Only when you read the bible knowing that every single word is true will you come up with non-contradictory interpretations. But you don't do that. So you will always miss the correct non-contradictory interpretations and other will always have to point them out to you, as I have just done.

Wha..?
Get on with it... tell me what was garbage about my post. Like I said, I stand ready to be corrected if only you will do me the favor.

I say that sincerely.

How is it garbage that Paul and James were at doctrinal odds with each other?

Evidence I cite is the discussion at hand regarding justification; the fact that there were groups of believing Christians who understood that James was at odds with Paul; The fact that James very nearly did not make it into the cannon because of its contrary read to Paul’s theology; the fact that other men from church history such as Luther saw James as essentially problematic to a Pauline theology; the fact that it can be demonstrated that acts tries to downplay the divisions within the early church; the fact that Paul was set on edge by “certain men come from James sent to spy on our freedoms” (my paraphrase); the fact that Paul everywhere in his writings is battling “legalists” and “judaisers” and devotes one whole letter to the “problem” (Galatians); The fact that these early Jewish Christian groups rejected Paul in favor of James also wrote documents such as the Pseudo Clementine’s, the Gospel of the Ebionites, the Hebrew gospel of Mathew that were said to be anti Paul; the fact that early church fathers wrote polemics against these groups describing the group’s antipathy toward Paul. I can go on…

Same thing applies to the Q'ran. Or the sacred Hindu texts. Or George W. Bush's speeches. If we just read them KNOWING they are true, they would be perfectly consistent.

Of course, there are over a thousand different Christian denominations, most of whom believe the Bible is non-contradictory, yet no two of them can agree on what it actually says.

God is a lousy writer.

That could be the vain burbling of idiots; it could be the blindness of those who won't see. That is not evidence.

Quote:
the fact that there were groups of believing Christians who understood that James was at odds with Paul
Where does that 'fact' emerge from?

Quote:
The fact that James very nearly did not make it into the cannon because of its contrary read to Paul’s theology
Who told you that?

Quote:
the fact that other men from church history such as Luther saw James as essentially problematic to a Pauline theology
Who says that Luther was any part of the church?

Quote:
the fact that it can be demonstrated that acts tries to downplay the divisions within the early church
Don't just sit there, demonstrate it.

Quote:
the fact that Paul was set on edge by “certain men come from James sent to spy on our freedoms” (my paraphrase)
That's not paraphrase, it's fabrication.

Quote:
the fact that Paul everywhere in his writings is battling “legalists” and “judaisers” and devotes one whole letter to the “problem” (Galatians)
That's got nothing to do with James' letter.

The fact that these early Jewish Christian groups rejected Paul in favor of James
Where is the evidence?

Quote:
also wrote documents such as the Pseudo Clementine’s, the Gospel of the Ebionites, the Hebrew gospel of Mathew that were said to be anti Paul;
Pure fantasy?

Who decides who is in the church?

Not people with vivid imaginations, anyway!

Go on with the bullshit, methinks.

Now start proving anything you have alleged. <removed>
