I usually do this every few years because I hate those fucking things. To me they say one of two thing about people who use them:
1) They are too lazy and/or uncreative to make an actual point
2) They want to personally insult someone and this a way to do it without getting hammered by the mods

There are some occasions, such as when you’re making joke and it could be misconstrued, that the use of the benign little smilie face could avoid problems. But for the most part they are woefully unimaginative and serve no useful purpose. They certainly don’t raise the level of discourse around here.

And yes, I know some people will respond to this, as they always do, with a bunch of smilies, thinking they are being oh-so-clever. Let me assure you beforehand, you’re not.

Yes, they suck total ass. Whenever I see something like,

I immediately scream at my monitor "YOU'RE A FUCKING UNFUNNY PIECE OF SHIT GET OFF MY INTERNET"

Whenever I see something like

I scream, "GO PUT YOUR HEAD THROUGH A REAL WALL YOU FUCKING WASTE OF FLESH FUCK"

And, of course, whenever I see:

I throw the nearest object I can grab at the easiest location to hurl shit at.

Fuck smilies.

It isn’t as if people come up with any new ones. It’s the same old smilies time after time. They are like clichés. Done to death.
