If he had been hanged, Christians would have to go around wearing a noose around their necks.

Oh, wait, lots of men wear ties ...

You mean like bobbing for eggs? ("Hey, those things had better be eggs!")

I've heard Christians assert that he had to spend those three days he was dead in Hell and that's why it was so bad. I'm not sure if that claim is backed up by scripture.

Even if that's true, though, I don't see why that would be a problem. It's not like Satan would torture him, since Jesus was an incarnation of God and all he'd have to say was "Hey bitch, remember me? I'm the guy that beat your ass down last time. Lay a finger on me while I'm in my human form and I'll be back in four days after I've reascended to discuss it further with you."

Satan's a pussy compared to God (guy who's not omnipotent vs guy who is omnipotent), so God has nothing to worry about from Satan.

Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."
Unless Hell is paradise, I'm not sure how well that assertion holds up.

OK, looks like the guy who who told me that was talking out of his ass.

So then the crucifiction seems like a waste of time. He hung out in the open air for a bit and then popped back home to make sure that the neighbour's kid had fed the dog and collected the mail and then came back to say goodbye to everyone before heading back to the house to relax on the patio.

What a useless basis of a religion.

Look up Apollonius of Nazarene for a good comparison to Jesus. His life almost parallels that of Jesus right down to the crucifixion.

Had he been executed in modern USA, we would have Our Lady of the Holy Hypodermic Needle or people driving around with tiny electric chairs affixed to their dashboards.

Aesthetics, man, aesthetics.
How about that Gitmo example? Walking around with a mini-prison on your neck. Complete with guard towers and fences.

You can make him watch Plan Nine from Outer Space until dead.
