Default Third trimester abortions (PC people only)

This poll is only for those who consider themselves pro-choice. What do you think is a valid reason for a third trimester abortion:

Needs multi-choice. I'd pick all but the "never" option. Note, I don't know which reason would be good enough for *me* (probably 2-4) but I'm not going to suggest anyone else's reason isn't enough.

Serious risk to the physical health of the mother, or major fetal defects.

But the poll should be multi-choice.

Third trimester means 7, 8 or 9 months old. I'd be okay with abortion for major fetal defects. But for all the rest a provoked birth doesn't necessarily mean killing the baby (yes, it's a baby now, it can sustain itself on the outside with medical attention, and easily so).

Medical- physical health only.

Moderately PC and have a wife currently entering the third trimester. There's no excuse for third trimester abortions apart from medically necessary, because people don't magically show up seven months pregnant one day.

Defects aren't a valid excuse as the vast majority of any sort of major defect can be detected far earlier (for instance, ultrasound at twelve weeks can lead strong support for Downs).

Poses a serious threat to the physical well being of the mother.

Not all pregnant women have access to necessary medical care early on, nor do they make rational decisions. You're essentially proposing that babies with serious birth defects should be brought into the world because the mother was negligent in getting the proper care or failed to make a "good decision."

You're quite overstating the case when you say "easily so." It is expensive to care for an unwanted premature baby for several months, and there is a much higher rate of mortality, complications, and developmental problems in babies born even slightly early.

Can't answer this because I'm not a doctor or the patient.
