Lightbulb The need to accept Islam

When I started my thread "You need to understand Islam!", I though that the main problem concerning Islam In the Western World is the lack of knowledge which leads to miss-understand of Islam.
However, I discovered that many Westerns do not accept Islam at all; they do not accept Islam as a religion. What is most important, they do not accept it as different way of life and as a different culture.
The readiness to accept the presence of others and differentiation between people due to their culture is a very important factor in solving the old problem of Western World with Islam.

Surely everyone accepts that Islam exists and that it is a religion and that its followers have a different way of life and culture. What is your point???

Specifically what do you mean by "accept" in this context??

Very true. This forum, however, is not representative of the bulk of the western world, just a tiny fraction of it.

Speaking for myself, I recognize islam as being just as valid as Christianity, Judaism, or any other major religion. I feel that others share my perspective on it.

Well, THIS is true, to a degree. Most average everyday people I know hold the islamic culture with a degree of contempt, unfortunately. Hell, most people I know hold their neighbor's culture with contempt, and they're IN the same culture (although they don't think they are).

Yes, I agree with you here

Should we accept the fact that Muslim theocracies make their women wear bee keeper suits?

Should we accept the fact that democracy and separation of church and state is only a dream in Egypt and Iran?

Should we accept terrorism?

Are there a lot of people who understand Islam but don't accept it, whatever that means? Or vice versa?

Also, would it be possible for me to "accept" Islam but still criticize anything I considered to be a flaw of Islam?

Islam is a religion. It inspires people to oppress women, quell personal rights and democracy, hate nonbelievers, and commit acts of murder. I sincerely believe that the world would be better off if the Islamic religion were to die off.

However, I have an appreciation for the Islamic people and the positive aspects of Islamic culture. It is hard to look at the art and architecture inspired by Islam and not be in awe, just as it is hard to look on a Gothic cathedral without the same sense. But I loathe the narrow-mindedness, misogyny, war, nationalism, and violence which are propagated in the name of Islam.

Please note: my feelings about Islam are very similar to my feelings on Christianity. I would weep with joy to see a world where Muslims and Christians threw away their hate-filled, blood-soaked dogmas of intolerance and treat one another as human beings. But I despise both religions.

Not again...........

One thread is enough, I expect the moderators to merge both threads together soon.

Default the "anti-Christ" religion

Is it your intent to convert me to Islam? And if I refuse? Will you or your brothers kill me? Isn't that your commandment? Do you not believe that in the "end times" that Muslims will murder and destroy all the world's non-believers in the great battle? The world is full of historical atrocities in the name of religion, but this is the only religion I know of that teaches murder as part of its doctrine. Is this not a religion of evil?

Fully agree. Religious belief is an excuse to harbor insane opinions that never have to be examined objectively. Historically we've seen religion motivate and excuse the most reprehensible behavior imaginable. The history and scripture of Islam is soaked in the same maniacal sadism that characterizes all fanatic movements. There's no reason to look any more favorably on Islam than on Christianity or any other death cult.

Question

I have read the Koran. You point is that westeners don't accept your beliefs. I don't accept anyoine's "beliefs" however I am inclined to accept their facts.

Is there a point?
