shall I give my first-born for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth Jehovah require of thee, but to do justly, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with thy God? |

"Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time." -- 1 John 2:18

Isn;t there a bit about 'wine that maketh glad the heart of man'?
I hope it's verbatim, but can't guarantee it (at this time of night). David B (finds that his sort of biblical bit) |

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, as opposed to John 3:16 (John 3:16 - New King James Version - For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life) thank you for starting this thread, i have enjoyed looking up the responses (for the most part) and can't wait to read more... |

From somewhere in Ecclesiastes:
"I have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has set eternity in the hearts of men, but they cannot see what God has done from beginning to end." |

"The truth shall set you free". Who doesn't believe that one? Who's so dull and uneducated not to feel immensely inspired by it?
The problem with fundamentalists is that they read "Truth™ shall set you free", instead of "The truth [whatever it shall be, beyond your pretentious wishes and preconceptions] shall set you free". I believe that's the idea behind Zen and certain psychotherapies, to knock you off of your self-centered and preconceived notions. Truths that sharply contrast with your preconceptions really set you free. Change your views, experiment with new vantage points and you shall see how you and the world -every single thing- change completely. Things you thought were givens now seem contingent and relative, odious monsters become friends, and certain friends of old come to be seen rather as shackles. |
