In an online debate I participated in, a fundamentalist made a pretty convincing case that the commandment should be "Thou shalt not murder" as opposed to the popular "Thou shalt not kill". What's your take and where can I find more information ?
My apologies if this subject has been dealt with to death already. |

I would say that a more accurate formulation of the command would be "Thou shall not kill a fellow Israelite unless they break one of my death penalty commandments, insult my prophets, or touch my Ark, and thou shall not kill a foreigner unless I command you to seize their land".

Most likely, all apologies aside, its meant as murder, not the general vague description of kill. Although if I recall, this was debated even in antiquity (vegetarian Essenes, anyone?).

Question: In what case would "not to kill" be the wrong action, the "sinful" action?
