Just to remove some weight from the guilt you might feel parting with some of the cash, and to agree with the above assessments: A very good book. Well worth it.

Good news! My wife has given me permission to blow my "book budget" on Lost Christianities and Orthodox Corruption...

Bad news! I have to wait until after pay-day before I can get them...

Try to get them here:

It may help the budget a bit.

If you buy both from Amazon from one of the links on this page, you will avoid shipping charges and help out the Internet Infidels.

If I change the links from 'amazon.com' to 'amazon.co.uk', will that still work?

No - you also need to change /internetinfidels to /thesecularweb09

Try these:

Lost Christianities

Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why.

Orthodox Corruption of Scripture

What is the opinion of the people here? Is it scholarly and referenced (and are its conclusions well supported) or is it from the Dan Brown / Freke and Gandy school of 'Biblical Scholarship'?

(Okay - that last sentence was below the belt - Freke and Gandy are nowhere near as bad as Dan Brown...)
Bart Erhman is Chair of the Religious Studies Department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds a doctorate from Princton University.
I just received Misquoting Jesus from Amazon.Com but have not started to read it. He has lectures on CD found at the Teaching Company that are good.
Yes, he is a little more qualified then Freke & Gandy from The Jesus Mysteries

My wife won't be happy at the expense... but I'll just blame you lot.

Absolutely money well spent. Bart Ehrman is at the top of the list. 10/10.
