I'll let this one one ride for another few posts but unless someone posts something which convinces me that it's a GRD, then it belongs in BC&H in which linguistic questions relating to the various Abrahamic religions are usually sent.

Seems to me that fundies and other brands of xians generally just do what ever the fuck they want and then fall back on some biblical verse to support it.

Most swearwords are considered offensive today because of a lingering of Victorian values - when the word 'leg' was considered too suggestive to use in polite conversation. Before then nobody (if you will pardon the expression) gave a shit. But they sure as hell gave a damn. Blasphemy was taken alot more seriously and saying 'oh damn' in the middle ages would receive about the same response as saying 'oh fuck' would now.
