Hiya,

Several writers who discussed astronomical events COULD have mentioned such a darkness had it happened :

Marcus Manilius wrote in Rome - early 1st C.

Hero(n) of Alexandria wrote - late 1st C.

Geminus wrote in Greece - late 1st C.

Pliny the Elder - late 1st C.

Theon of Smyrna - early 2nd C.

Ptolemy - early 2nd C.

there is no evidence, only desinformation.
the gospel story is to be understood as a philosophical allegory,
not historically as those do who deceive you,
and those who fail to see lack the ability of understanding Christian origins.

I don't know the mind of God. How would I?

I don't know WHY he does what he does. I just KNOW he does what he does.
You mean, like torture babies with malaria and kill hundreds of millions with smallpox, etc?

Not to derail the thread, but I couldn't let such a statement go by without a comment.

So if you won't obey God, why should he show up and appear to you?

Just so you can go "Oh Hey God! Nope sorry, still not worshiping though. Nice effort though buddy."
Biblegod is supposed to be a god of justice. Biblegod not proving his existence and then sending people to hell because they don't believe is not just.

On a side note you missed Gullwind's point

Hi

I would suggest rephrasing the title of the thread. Jesus did not die on the Cross, he was put on the Cross but was delivered near-dead nevertheless alive from Cross.

Jesus did not die for my sins, if I sin I repent before GodAllahYHWH, I resolve not to sin again and ask forgiveness from Him. GodAllahYHWH is Forgiver of the sins, it is one of His attributes and He forgives those sins, He needs no intercessors I ask from Him direcltly, He is Most Powerful, he has not to consult from anybody or He does not need permission from anybody for forgiveness of my sins. This is mentioned in Quran.

The Holy Quran : Chapter 39: Al-Zumar

[39:51] Those who were before said the same thing, yet all that they earned availed them not.
[39:52] So the evil consequences of what they had earned overtook them; and those who do wrong from among these disbelievers - the evil consequences of what they earned shall overtake them also and they cannot escape.
[39:53] Know they not that Allah enlarges the provision for whomsoever He pleases, and straitens it for whomsoever He pleases? Verily, in that are Signs for a people who believe.
[39:54] Say, 'O My servants who have sinned against their souls, despair not of the mercy of Allah, surely, Allah forgives all sins. Verily, He is Most forgiving, Ever Merciful;

[39:55] 'And turn to your Lord, and submit yourselves to Him, before there comes unto you the punishment; for then you shall not be helped;
[39:56] And follow the best Teaching that has been revealed to you from your Lord, before the punishment comes upon you suddenly, while you perceive not.'

I think everybody agrees with me, it is reasonable.

No disrecspect to any religion or person is intended, this is just to express what I think to be right.

Thanks

I am an Ahmadi peaceful Muslim

Perhaps I will ask him in Heaven.
IF there is a Heaven, I suspect you're gonna be really, really surprised to find out how that really works.

If, however, your version of Heaven is the Real Deal, how are you going to deal with the pure and perfect knowledge that so many of your neighbors, friends, family members and co-workers are suffering in hell? Will their screams be music to your ears? Will your mind be wiped so that you forget all those people? Will you miss your friends and family members? Will you take Heavenly vacation to the edge of the Pit to listen to the serenade of screams? Will you simply not care?

Philipon is a 6th century historian. But he doesn't even quote Phlegon.

We know Christians, being human beings, exaggerate and jump to conclusions.

Without an actual quote from Phlegon , this is of no more evidence than 11th century Islamic claims about Muhammad.

Perhaps he will need to ask for a set of ear-plugs?
Nah, all he has to do is leave in the ones that he's now wearing.:banghead:

What are you seriously suggesting?
Gee, i think i'm suggesting that if it was world-wide darkness, then we'd expect more than one mention of it.
Quote:
How many non-apologetic sources would you accept?
Don't know. How many can you supply?
Quote:
If 60% of historians mentioned it, would that be enough?
Don't know. How many can you supply?

Or would you then say "Why didn't EVERY historian write it?"
Don't know. How many can you actually supply? I mean, can you provide corroboration for YOUR OWN ARGUMENT without making your entire point an ad hominem attack on my motives.

Quote:
Also, the Bible never says darkness covered the WHOLE EARTH.
But you say that your pagan source is explaining a darkness that covered the whole world. And trying to tie that to the darkness that The Books mentioned. So which is it?

Quote:
It says darkness covered the land. How much land though? We don't know. It covered been only over the cross or field he was crucified.

it could've been the whole town. We don't know.

If it's the former, how could the historians notice unless they were near Jesus?
So, you have absolutely nothing but a pagan with world-covering darkness, and a The Book reference that mentions 'some' darkness. Are you seriously suggesting that Thallus corroborates the Books or not?
Quote:
if it's the latter, you may have a point.
Good. Just what the fuck IS your point, though?
