Lightbulb While surfing Christian TV.....

I was doing some surfing and I landed on a xtain channel - I happen to do this from time to time being a former xtian myself. Anyway, there were three individuals discussing how xtianity has been blessed in recent years with incredible worship but now it seemed the spirit was leading in the direction of intellectualism. This caught my attention.

One person, the interviewee, went on to talk about how many science books have been written over the years and how great it was for xtians to have just one book that answered all science questions, psychological questions, etc, etc.

I began to wonder if these people truly understand what science is and why books are continually updated. I also wondered why they believe the Bible as it teaches a flat earth disc with a dome through which the sun would penetrate. I wondered if they were prepared to side with the fact that the universe is billions of years old and showing signs of evolution. I wondered if these new intellectual xtians will ask themselves why Jesus was casting out a demon from a medically diagnosed condition known as a seizure. I wondered how they could be moving in the direction of intellectualism when they claim its the spirit that is leading them there.

I wondered if this was a ray of hope woa that was just as irrational as their new intellectualism.

I turned the channel.

On very rare occasions I stop at one of these channels. If you're into psychology I'm sure it's a lot more interesting, watching these groups of people reenforce each others beliefs, but not really saying anything of substance. It's a good way to amuse yourself for 5 minutes (that's about all I can stand before my eyes start to glaze over).

Just once I'd love to come across a channel where two people of different sects of christianity were arguing about their beliefs.

Argue?

or...

Fight to the death using their hands or weapons of their own design (using objects salvaged from the environment) in an expansive arena filled with a myriad of elaborate and most certainly lethal traps where only one is allowed to leave alive and a gigantic timer ticks down the moments until cyanide is released into the room...

Christian TV is dominated by charistmatics. They are usually the most gullible of all Christians and therefore easy prey for tv evangelists Non-charismatic fundies are at least skeptical of speaking in tongues, faith healings, and being slain in the spirit.

I had thought this would make a great new 'reality' television series.

Put together in a house: a Jew, a Palestinian, an evangelical Christian, a muslim, a hindu, a sikh, an atheist, an agnostic, etc. Make them live together and don't let them out.

I bet it would be fun....

We Christians actually did that for a few centuries. Unfortunately, it led to such things as the Inquisition and the religious wars. Happily we have learned some since those times. It ain't really all that important.-----------the little or large variances of belief in Christianity.

Been that way since the times of Jesus. Remember the early heresies? Always will be that way---many belief differences among Christians.

Christians believe many different things and finally we can sort of stand each other. Ain't tolerance wonderful? Let's just leave it alone.

I stop by those channels on my way to something else, as well. I just cannot get over the crassness of some of them--asking for money, money, and more money to build these obnoxious, gigantic "worship centers" [at least that's what I saw on the last flip-through].

It makes me wonder if they even believe what they're saying--or they just found a new way to make millions. It's very unethical, in my book.

According to the Apostle Paul, it doesn't matter as long as they preach the gospel! Get rich and gain brownie points in heaven at the same time! Woo!
