It's not just doomsday prediction they ignore. It is just about everything else.

I'm sure that someone here who's into astronomy could debunk this in no time at all, I'm not so I can't, and besides I'm too lazy anyway.

http://www.bushcountry.org/news/may_..._end_world.htm

and the RR thread.

I'm a bit of an amateur astronomer. From what I understand the picture in question comes from SWAN (Solar Wind Anisotropies), a device on the SOHO (Solar & Heliospheric Observatory) satellite.

From the website:
COMET TRACKER'S MAPS
Finally, the full-sky observation images can be processed in order to reveal bright points in ultraviolet light by subtracting an average hydrogen glow. When the maps are displayed in ecliptic coordinates any point seen moving on an image sequence is potentially a comet.

As it turns out, one of those lights is a comet that will be primarliy visible from the southern hemisphere during June. The comet has been named C/2004 H6 (SWAN). There really sn't anything else to add. It's not a particularly dazzling comet. Comets are discovered regularly, most are too small to be seen with the naked eye. Whoever posted that garbage on RR is simply playing on people's fears, but then again we already knew that.

I particularly enjoyed this part of the doomsday thread:

OK....seems I have got at least SOME peoples attention. Some people want to know what I have seen and observed...very well then. BUT...before I go on I will say one thing about all this doom and gloom stuff. I am over 60 years old. I have seen it come and seen it go. I watched the computer age being born. I have seen and heard every type of doom and gloom scenario you could imagine. All my life I have watched the skies and believe me...I know when something is NOT right with things. I have observed over the years a steady increase of the knowledge that something aint right with the universe in general. For years now...longer than most of you have been alive...I have seen the indoctrination of doom spread across mankind's face. People are not what they used to be and things have changed a lot. AND NOW....after many years of planning and indoctrination...what they were subconsciously preparing us for is at our very doorstep.
Apparently thanks to his indoctrination he seems to know how the universe "should" work. Stupid me, I thought all that observing and shit would help me to figure out how the universe works. :banghead:

Default Not all Christians are ignorant all the time...

Some Christians ignore or are completely ignorant nearly all the time about Biblical info. Yet large numbers actually study the Bible, alone or in groups. We derive great comfort from the Word of God, written for us. I, for example, am part of the informed group-thats why I can point out the source of their error.
