Your absurdist/grotesque attempts at religious humor are not that inspiring Dharma, honestly.

Hindus have had the most fun with spirituality and this is not humor, since these fun stories actually have some spiritual meaning...which is why I said you are an unArya melecha if you don't believe it.

I think the Anarya Mleccha thing is a bit funny come to think of it. Indians used to proscribe travelling overseas (kind of interesting mindset that, as though one's entire religous / cultural attitude could be washed away by removal from the physical premises). Lends credence to the notion that religion is really just a hive mind phenomenon.

Huon has brought out some good points!
But basically there has always been opposition to new ideas in human society.
Priests of the society quite often were intolerant, bigoted and opportunistic.
But the people of the pagan lands had a certain amount of intellectual and religious freedom. The commoners of greece had no problem with socrates, but during the medieval times,it was the commoners who were involved in burning heretics. If what they(during pagan times) chose to believe in ,could cause social upheavel, the ruling elite did their best to put them down. This does not mean, that they were dictated to follow every word of the doctrines preached by the priests.Perhaps,we are coming to an interesting point.Whenever religion mixes with the politics of the land it becomes deadly.
Christians believe in Moses because jesus belived in him. Thus ultimately all teachings are inspired by jesus christ and his beliefs. It did not matter,if one's ancestor worshipped different god/gods.All intellectuals of one's land were to be forgotten,if they had not based their teachings on Jesus.Whether one agrees with it or not, science suffered, during the days when christianity and Islam were most powerfull!Of course today, there are very few die hard christians in the west. But take the case of Islam, there are diehard followers of islam. They will do anything to oppose any change in the way Islam is practiced. There were no hard and fast rules, that must be followed for eternity.Religion was never static.Wise men were always revered by the commoners. Thus it was easy for the pagans to accept Jesus Christ, but it was difficult for the jews to accept him!But when they accepted the abrahamic religion, they did not realize that they would have to forget all the wise men and their teachings who were born in their own mother land. They would have to become inotolerant like the jews! Thus Some fanatic christian saints, who though were learned would blindly accept every word in a particular version of bible, were considered greater than even some of the greatest intellectuals of Europe such as socrates or plato! Each land in europe had its own history.Stone hinges are clear evidence that humans existed in Britain for atleast 10000 years. They definately had their own story of their origin. But no one today knows what these people believed in!But British people accepted the story of the jews as their own!Reason-They had to accept whatever jesus christ believed in!But in the past it was not difficult for a roman god to coexist with a british god,as long as romans were friendly with the british!People drew inspiration from each other's culture, not always but people were less disagreeable to change! And that is why when I started the thread,I was careful to use the phrase-"evolution of pagans".If pagan religions were perfect there would be no need for evolution!Romans had certain positive aspects in their culture.Women for instance enjoyed great intellectual freedom. It was not unknown for women to be considered as prophets !But we know what the Roman church believes about women! So in this aspect-the church has been reasponsible for reversing the clock.
All my statements may be considered as some kind of an assault against christians or other abrahamics. It is not ,but it is an attack on the conceapt of religion-as defined by the abrahamics. There might be a lot of weakness in pagan religions, but as there was no rigid structure, they allowed for evolution.Sometimes some leaders like moses or mohammed get inspired by certain good ideas and preach people to follow what they believed in!That is how the abrahamic religions gained foothold ,by the popularity of certain new ideas. But when people become condemned to these ideas for eternity, there is bound to be fanatism and madness. It is long time people accepted evolution of humans from soome primitive animal!Still a large percentage of the world is to come to terms with this!Why-The Bible or the holy books do not mention anything about this!

Friends please read the phrase -"Evolution of pagans" in the title of the thread!
