The distinction between this forum and the other (new one) would be that this one would be evidentiary. You can't just simply develop opinions which openly flaunt what the evidence says or have no evidentiary support. For instance, there is no evidence that Eusebius fabricated the New Testament and the Church Fathers. That's a crazy opinion. The evidence contradicts this understanding - not merely because no ancient source supports this notion but there are countless other source, too many to count, which contradict this idea. The idea that the Jewish Therapeutae 'invented' Christianity through borrowing from the Egyptian mysteries of Osiris and Serapis is similarly refuted. Philo does not say any of this and it is flatly confuted by the first commandment. There is no evidence that Jews as a group ever acted in this manner.
I think if someone 'discusses the possibility' that the Therapeutae might have been inventing Christianity or that they might have been lesbians or trained geese or survivors from the destruction of the Death Star - this can have a place at the forum as it seeks to evaluate the evidence. But when someone spams the board with outlandish claims couched as 'fact' or taken for granted as fact - that's where the line should be. |

And let's not also forget that some people are very happy to point to this forum as proof that critics of the existing paradigm of Christianity are all loons. It proves that once you step out of accepted norms you are enter the savage jungle of lunacy.

That would explain it. I suggest, for Steve, that he increase the text size of his web browser. In most browsers, that can be done by holding the Ctrl button and moving the mouse wheel.

I'd have to agree. We could literally claim mythicism as a hobby horse, while they claim standard practices in unbiased credible scholarships as a "hobby horse" do to prejudice and bias. the most disturbing thing about the OP, is the lack of acknowledgement that just about all scholarships, view others as "hobby horse" This is all about personal opinions, and this forum reflects that. I do agree with OP that drivel has gone to far, and things can be cleaned up, there is always room for improvement. I just hope it can be done with catering to mythicism and the mentality of conspiracy theororist . |
