Actually, the statements made by History channel executives skirt the issue of whether or not the events recounted in the Bible are history; the argument, apparently, is that the existence of the Bible's stories is itself history. "We spend a lot of time talking about this book, and probably not enough time knowing what's in it," History president Nancy Dubuc told the Hollywood Reporter. "One of the most important things about history is knowing the stories of history."

Of course it could be worst. A Survivor type series with HJers and JMers.

I suspect that theologian Jim West will not be consulted.

"People apply personal meanings to the Bible. Our job is to tell the stories in an emotionally connected way," he said, adding that much of great literature and its characters are rooted in the book.

"The Bible" is using the New International Version, the translation preferred by evangelical Christian leaders, and the New Revised Standard Version, Dubuc said. A committee of theologians and scholars is being assembled to consult on the series.

They must have run out of things to say about Hitler and the Nazis.

Sounds rather like a "Bible Study" class. Critical analysis just gets in the way of a good bedtime story.

The History Channel should close up shop. Between Axe Men, Ice Road Truckers and the 5000th re-run of Modern Marvels it has become a travesty.

Mark Burnett unveils the Bible

Other scenes were action-packed, and Burnett said he hopes to reach viewers who aren't familiar with the Bible.

"It's the most important sacred text," Burnett said. "Without this Shakespeare wouldn't have existed, let alone 'Lord of the Rings' and 'Game of Thrones.' "

The clips had a gritty realism unlike many biblical epics, and Hans Zimmer ("The Dark Knight Rises") supplies the musical score.
