Mark's gospel is the work of two authors. There is a great deal of interpolated material in the text. Some of the interpolations are very subtle.

A true story (hot off the reality press): There is an unmedicated Jesus living in the apartment directly above who has been going through some pretty rough stuff lately. Starting past week he has been turning up the TV sound up after eleven. Always a bad sign. I tried to talk to him in the past but he insists that I am a part of a police plot to bug his apartment. He is merely protecting himself against my electronic interference. The past two nights he has come up with a new idea of keeping me (and my eleven-year old son) up at night. He turns the volume up suddenly and then turns it down, and repeats this for about twenty minutes then twenty minute break, and again. Last night at about two thirty, he woke up me for the third time, with a vicious new variation - switch to the monotone of a TV station off the air for about ten seconds and then change to a still-live channel and vary the volume. The effect brought chills to my spine: "It is enough !" I called 911and behold the servants of the priests arrived before daybreak and took the Son of a virgin away.
I thought afterwards that Mark's proceedings in Gethsemane would have been much easier to follow if Judas was one of the harrassed sleepers. .... BTW, has anyone noticed Jesus' simultaneous command to sleep and to get up, at the announcement (14:41-42) the hour of Son of man's delivery to sinners has come ? Was this in Peter's report to Mark of his Jesus nightmares ? Jiri |
