Exactly, because nature doesn't have a conscience to care nor a mind to have any intention. So then why do we call it "natural selection?

It's not actually "selection", it's just that some traits help an individual to relatively bring forth more reproducing offspring than less well adapted individuals. So over generations this trait will become more prevalent in a population whereas the relatively less successful one will diminish.

Think a truly foreseeing, selecting, lion or other predator wishing to give its progeny a better chance would pick out the fastest gazelle (would probably be the tastiest as well)
