I just got a new calandar to use at my desk at work. I was just setting it up for December when I noticed something I'd never seen on a calandar before in my life...

December 8th is listed as.... "Immaculate Conception/L'Immaculee Conception" day!!! Whoot whoot! She must have been one fine piece for him to still be bragging 2000 years later. Should we see if we can make it a civic holiday? Does anybody here celebrate December 8th as the day that god banged Mary? How long did she carry liddle baby J? 12 months or 17 days?

Anyway, I figured since biblical scholars...*cough* have narrowed down the date of the creation of the world to the hour, has anybody done the work to trace back the exact momment of the celestial "big bang" that created JC?

Any assistance you can provide is welcome.

Actually (here's where my Catholic roots are finally useful) the Immaculate Conception is about Mary's birth, not Jesus. The arguement goes that Jesus needed to be born of a 'clean' (the only word I can think of) mother, that is without Original Sin. Therefore, god made Mary without OS. The problem IMO is that 1) Mary didn't have the free will to reject or accept it, therefore the angel asking her to be Jesus' mother is wrong and 2) Why doesn't god make us all without OS (in effect, why, instead of killing Jesus, he just forgive us like Mary?). Man, Catholics know how to dig themselves a deeper hole, eh? Another reason I left

God "made" her that way. And the doctrine of OS hadn't really been outlined when Mary was alive (I believe that was invented by St. Augustine). Also, the dogma of IC wasn't created until the 19th century by Pope Pius IX (I think). Pretty much, if you're a Catholic you have to believe this mess.

Annunciation is the term you want. Traditionally 25th March, so something tells me it was just calculated backwards...

You might be on to something. Should every December 8th be screw a virgin day? That's tomorrow isn't it? I can't see my wife going for this, but then again...it IS on the calandar, and that is pretty official and stuff.

p.s. - No 13 year olds. There's enough adult virgins out there. Hell, we could find a bunch of them on the last "when did you lose your virginity?" thread from a few days ago. LMFAO!
