Talking Who named these streets?

I just discovered this recently and I don't whether it's well-known. Excuse me if this is old news to you. There is one particular block in north Manhattan, in the Fort George area, which has an interesting combination of streets surrounding it. Check out the photo:

For reference, the fourth street which is not labeled in the picture is Broadway.

This is probably known to people who live in New York, but I had never heard of this block. I've never been to New York and I found it by chance while playing True Crime: New York City. I was driving down Seaman Avenue when I passed Cumming Street and I thought it was weird. Then I drove to the next corner and it was Dyckman Street.

Who the hell named these streets?

According to a friend, downtown there are two streets next to each other, respectively named Hickory and Dickory. Her first thought: So where's Dock?

I work for the postal service, deciphering addresses written by epileptic toddlers. I've come across plenty of streets and cities where I thought, "who the hell named this?" Dorkus Avenue. Blue Ball, PA (although that one might just be a typo of Blue Bell). Hicksville, OH. Lots and lots of Gay streets and cities - particularly in homophobic Jesusland. My favorite, though, is Felching Street.

It must be fun to give directions to that neighborhood. "Just use Dyckman to get to Seamen and then you'll see Cummings."

Sorry, but it's not a typo. There really is a Blue Ball, PA. We also have a place called Bird-In-Hand, and another named Intercourse. I'm guessing people living in the first locale rarely see the second one...

I just saw "Well Hung Drywall Co." tonight. I'm guessing that one was on purpose, though.

Not a thoroughfare name to be used in polite society, but check out this ancient multi-location lane name in England.

There is a town in Wisconsin called Spead Eagle and I believe Indiana has a town named nimrod. Wisconsin also has a state park called the "bong recreation area" named after a senator I believe.
