Oh good grief, he's a high school kid.
You'd have been cut a lot more slack if you had let us know that.

Seriously, though, Magus55 has come to this forum with his fundamentalist mindset, and when challenged by contradictory evidence, either claims us "infidels" are mocking him and his religion, or he fails to respond.
True. It may be frustrating, but it breaks no rules and I hate to see that frustration drive other people over the edge.

Perhaps I should put Magus55 on my ignore list, but as I've stated in the past, his stance reminds me of when I was a fundamentalist Baptist. And as such, I feel compelled to challenge his presuppositions because I really wish to spare him the potential future shame of having been a bible-condoned bigot.
How did you come to shed your beliefs? Did someone convince you or was it your own exploration?

Yes, because evidently, you have a particular adherence to a mythology which seperates you from the natural world around you, and gives you some sort of exalted state above and beyond the world you see around you.

Sorry I don't accept your assumptions, but similar anatomy is not convincing evidence that we came from apes - especially when you consider the enormous lack of transitional fossils between human and ape.
Again, this "lack of evidence" is due to you seeing yourself (and the rest of humanity, in spite of your assertions that humanity is depraved) as above the rest of the natural world.

I should expect millions, if not billions - not 100 or less.
Millions of what? Millions, or billions, of transitory forms "between" us special humans and them lowly apes? Who's being arrogant again here?

I also don't go to church or synagogue at present time so that has no effect on my beliefs.
That's too bad, because it appears to me you've made up your mind on this subject, and you therefore don't give a shit about what others' respective perspectives might have to offer.

Okay, okay. Enough on this tangent. We've come so far; let's not turn this thread into a dissection of Magus' beliefs. The only germane issue here is stereotypes of atheists and how we treat those who stereotype us or those we expect to stereotype us.

I'm curious. Why does atheism need promoting. If we were serious about promoting ourselfs wouldn't it work a hole lot better if we actually did some good old fashion promotions with buttons that said: "Hug an atheist, he's a human being too." or a tee shirt that said: "Atheist, the other life choice." Or how about "Got reason?". What makes anyone think that reason alone is going to promote anything? And why does atheism need promoting? Are we trying to form our own state?

It was through my own painful exploration of my beliefs that I came to see my "beliefs" were due to bigotry and indoctrination. I had accepted what others had told me because they were part of my community, while opposing views were from outsiders. Therefore, I trusted those around me while dismissing others' views because THEY (us versus them) were out to send me to hell along with themselves.

Ask SecWeb admin. This board exists to help promote naturalist metaphysics.

Promotion of rational discourse on naturalist metaphysics is far better than Very Angry Ranting.

You have claimed that "theology is difficult for us", and you stated it as though it was a fact.

If theology weren't difficult for atheists, would they be atheists?
