Default Self Defence

The law in Australia is you can't carry any self defence wepoan at all and so if some one attack's you then you're done for.

I think they should get rid of those anti-self defence law's or as I call it "the kill you're self law".

I think that as long as cops have better stuff then every one else then it would be good.

In Medieval time every one had daggers or swords and the cops&gruards had spears and other pole-arms.

In America cops are the same if not less armed then gangsters and thats why America gets a lot of killings.

You are allowed to defend yourself, you're not allowed to carry an offence weapon. Same as over here.

No that's not why there are lots of killing/murder.

Canada has similar levels of gun ownership but has very few murders, it's a culture thing - America has a culture of violence and fear of crime, Canada doesn't.

What's an offense weapon? Is it a weapon that is only usable in a defensive situation and won't work if used in an offensive situation?

Hello Jeffrey,

There isn't much Moral Principles and Foundations material in your original post as it exists.

Are you trying to say that there is a moral or ethical problem in having the government restrict a person's ability to carry defensive weapons?

If you wish to discuss the legality of the Australian government restricting weapons, we should probably move this over to Political Discussions.

cheers,
Michael

I'll try again now that I'm feeling a bit better:

I don't know of any weapon that can be used to defend one's self that cannot also be used to attack someone.

I'm going back to bed I'm still knackered.

I don't see how you could carry one of them to defend yourself with especially in public (town/city). Though I suppose it would scare any muggers that used a Harrier Jump Jet

Ok, let's make this a MF&P topic. I'll just hijack the thread.

During the riots after Rodney King, I got to wondering. What if you were (coincidently) heavily armed but otherwise minding your own business. Say you were on the way to the shooting range.
Suddenly you're run off the road by Ruffians or N'erdowells or whatever and forced to defend your own life.
Problem is, there are lots of them. Like a bus load. And they keep coming even when you kill many of them.

How many people could a person kill morally in self-defence? 3? 10? 100?

I know, I've been watching too many action movies lately. Still, the question nags at me. I don't know why.

I don't think there's any limit. In general, such scum don't come in large groups, but you could run afoul of a large motorcycle gang or the like.
