Why was Socrates sentenced to death ? It does not matter. If it makes you feel better, it's because you were falsely accused and wrongfully convicted by a jury of your peers. The sentence has to be carried out. Choose.

The Idea of death (non-existence) does not bother me ... the idea of pain / discomfort/loss of dignity & capicity does ... therfore .. I would choose the quicker method .. plus I could make an effort to leave one last definite gesture ... not sure yet what this would be ...

I overrode my (baser) instincts and actually made an effort to answer both honestly and with some thought ...
so your follow up better be worth it :Cheeky:

I choose starvation. On the third night, I complete my tunnel, crawl to freedom, and live happily ever after as a Charter Boat Captain in Mexico.

I intend to make a philosophical point that will shock you.

Out of curiousity, some background on the comment quoted? Prove you're not despicable?

My spouse indicated the chamber.

I'd choose banishment. You never know what might happen ..... and there might be something to read as well.

I found what this was about, or sort of: it's this thread in GRD. On page two.

Our mate Angyson is attempting to prove that he's not despicable because he thinks the holocaust is not so bad, really. Or in fact, is quite OK with him. So if you agree that being quickly gassed is somehow nicer than starving slowly as a Ukrainian peasant, or being killed in battle, then he's not despicable. I fail to see the point of comparing all these evils. You can't prove that something is not evil by showing that other things are also evil.

Here's the rather unpleasant post. (Sorry, I haven't yet figured out to link a specific post)

Personally I would not want to die, and would take up arms against the person who dictated I must do so.

I have already dealt with this question on a previous post. It is irrelevant. The State has condemned you to death by starvation or the gas chamber.

Make your choice.
