I'm new here, deathly afraid of ticking off the veterans, and presently kinda drunk. But I wanted to put this Nietzschesque theory out there and see if it gets any attention.
Can the fictional character of Jesus Christus be re-defined to represent the benefits of atheism? Yeah, I know this has already been done, by necessity, but is it acceptable in the modern era, and moreover is it safe? You have all the fundamentals of incredulity. He rejects organized faith, calls himself an invention of man as well as alluding to being God incarnate, ends up dying for his trouble at the hands of convoluted theocracy, doesn't go to heaven but rather rises bodily, and praises the skepticism of his fellows. Being a fictional character, subject to years upon years of invention and revision, isn't this First Century Palestinian Jew public domain? Can the theology built up around the bare bones of the gospels be expanded beyond pious Christianity? Can't the super-man, the archetype exist and be of value without the mysticism? Philo re-visioned Moses to some gain, so why not take it farther as an independant line of philosophy? Not a Kazantzakis footnote, but a whole faction in the tradition of Platonism, etc. If it is permissible to reject the rules of conduct invented by the canon, why persist in discarding the literature completely? Its no sin to an atheist to openly pick and choose the way the Christian does secretly. How many nations have been conquered through assimilation? I'm still not getting the point I wanted to make across, but I think it'd be best to leave the post with the above thought. |

First of all, why would you want to do this?

Why choose a God? The Object of Christ/Osiris is for you to become immortal.
True Christian People do not go to war with other Christian people, so if everyone is Christian there should be no more war. True Christian People do NOT attack other people. BUT they must be able to defend themselves from attack, and the best way is to talk peace into those who would attack each other. What would you rather have? Immortal Life, as an Angelic Christ Child/Child-God become Immortal through RE-Birth, or something else? And if you could share Immortal life with the woman of your dreams would that not be the best gift of all? |

If I could share immortal life with the woman of my dreams I am sure after a couple of centuries I would be sick of her. As the milenia passed this frustration would compound upon itself. After 1 million years I would be ready to kill myself. Of course being dead, I would be forced to live in the purgatory forever. Love is the mistaken idea that one woman differs from another. Geez, I'm just 39 and I'm still not married. I am already pretty much set in my ways. Why spoil it for me? ![]() |

Jesus was a control freak that said and did many things that were very unwise and in contradiction, he has nothing that special to offer to even equal with an average theist or atheist.

And if he's talking about the "My God, why have you forsaken me?" schmaltz, it certainly doesn't imply that God was an atheist. To establish that, you have to stretch the meaning of the words and accept the logical contradiction of the Incarnation. All due respect, but Chesterton could be a bit of a twonk at times. |

Christians don't do that, although most of them that haven't read their 'bable' don't know this: Matt 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. {Jesus speaking} Mark 12:25 - For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. {Jesus speaking} Luke 20:35 - but those who are accounted worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, {Jesus speaking} |
