Default An Article In The Los Angeles Times

AN ARTICLE IN THE LOS ANGELES TIMES
By New10

Wall Watchers proposed that the Trinity Broadcasting Network [TBN], headed by televangelist Paul Crouch, stop relying on the “prosperity gospel,? a religious principle touting that individuals who donate fundraising money to TBN will receive financial rewards from God.
What sort of neurotic mentality would believe in this preposterous fraud?
Crouch has made millions of dollars by skimming off the top from donations sent by mentally unstable minds; there seems to be millions willing to do just that.
I think that Christianity survives on the PROMISE of everlasting life. What I read about Crouch proves to me that he is a sociopath. He resembles a telemarketer talking aged lonely individuals out of their life savings without a trace of shame on his part.
The same is true about his brand of Christianity. It is my opinion that many televangelists are drawn to this profession because of personal financial rewards. There are millions of lonely older people whose only opportunity for socialization is through Christian televisions programs - entertainment that they sit and watch all day long.

Watchdog Group Wants TBN Leaders to Step Aside
Quote:
Wall Watchers officials recommended that TBN revamp its board of directors, which consists of Jan and Paul Crouch and his sister, Ruth Brown, to be independent of the Crouch family. The group also proposed that the network stop relying on the "prosperity gospel" — a religious principle that donors will receive financial rewards from God by giving money to TBN — for fundraising.

"The new board should … complete a thorough overhaul of the ministry to put it on a path to teaching authentic Christian theology and operating in a manner that rejects self-serving financial transactions and embraces sound management practices," the organization said in a statement scheduled to be released today.

. . .

But Wall Watcher officials said that if TBN didn't adequately address their concerns involving donor money, they would ask the IRS and relevant state attorneys general to investigate whether "the ministry's charitable purpose, rather than the Crouches' reported lavish lifestyle, is being diligently pursued."

This used to be a big joke among my friends. We figured that evangelical TV preacher would be my profession when I "grew up."

The test I took at school to find my professional talents said because of my strong moral and ethical standards, that I should go into the clergy. There were major church scandals at the time, so these were the most notable "clergy" we knew. Irony meter, anyone?

Of course, because of my strong moral and ethical standards, I could never go into the clergy.
