There are written references to him.
It was the Child of a Ghost that is DOCUMENTED in Extant Codices to have lived in Nazareth AFTER being born in Bethlehem.
Some parts of the extant codices say that. Other parts say other things. Mark never says Jesus was the child of a ghost.
Mark says Jesus TRANSFIGURED, WALKED on the sea, and resurrected just like the Ghost Child in gMatthew and gLuke.

Go figure.

The author of gMark NEVER said Pilate was called Pontius Pilate, NEVER did say he was governor of Judea and NEVER did say he was governor during the reign of Tiberius.

Unless it is imagined that the Gospels arose completely from the minds of their authors there must have been information about an earthly Jesus even earlier. The most plausible explanation for these traditions is an earthly Jesus.

So, your argument is :

Firstly - there can only be two possibilities :
1. it's true history
2. it all arose completely from the minds of their authors
and no other possibility.

Secondly,
it's not plausible that it arose completely from the minds of their authors.

Therefore Jesus existed.

How silly.

Of course there are more possibilities than those two.

Of course stories CAN and HAVE arose completely from the minds of the authors (or do you believe ALL myths and legends are true?)

But - the Jesus Myth theory does NOT say it all arose "completely from the minds of their authors" at all.

The Jesus story arose from PREVIOUS stories in the Tanakh. Some authors claim the Jesus story was based on astro-theology. What the Jesus Myth theory does NOT argue is that it "arose completely from the minds of the authors" (or that it was 'made up from whole cloth' or many other phrases that mean the same thing.)

But in the face of all that we still get this silly argument repeated endlessly -
Either it's true history, or it's all made-up - therefore, Jesus existed !

This forum has countless threads on the evidence for mythicism. Duplicating what's in them would be a massive waste of my time. The evidence has also been on Doherty's Web site for years, for anybody who is more interested in getting familiar with it than in persistently denying its existence.

If I told you, you'd just say they weren't really from the first century.
OK I'll make a guess. Were you refering to the books of the new testament?
Some of them.

So the text of Mark includes some statements which are not true, and does not contain some statements which are true. That still leaves open the question of how many true statements are included in the text.

I'll take that as a 'no, sorry, I don't have any evidence for the existence of early mythicism to post in that other thread'

Away with your nonsense, archibald.

Virtually all apologetic writers of the Jesus cult claimed Jesus was NON-HISTORICAL, the Jesus of FAITH.

You don't seem to understand the HJ/MJ argument.

The HJ argument is NOT that Jesus was merely on EARTH but that he was ONLY human and was PUBLICLY KNOWN as a human but was LIED upon and EMBELLISHED.

MYTHS of the Greeks and Romans were ALSO claimed to be on earth.

Indeed - what a joke.

Doherty - reams of evidence and argument....

archibald - where is the evidence?

Kapyong - posts of evidence and argument...

archibald - so where is the evidence?

Doug - posts of evidence and argument...

archibald - why will no-one post evidence?

Posters - yet more evidence.
Other posters - more evidence...

archibald - so, there is no evidence then?

It's pathetic, archibald.

Do you mean like in Mark 6:3? Or do you mean something different from that?
