Question Bible versions?

Hello,

I am beginning a critical bible study along with two friends and we would like a little help picking out a good version to use. I know that the KJV is regarded as quite accurate but I don't want to study middle english as well. I think there is one out there informally referred to as the scholars version. Does anyone know which it is? Also, can anyone recomend a good introductory academic text?

Thanks,

Scott

Umm...it's not, actually. There are quite a few places where it uses weaker manuscripts, and even has a few typos.

(Also, Middle English was used in the 13th century (around the time of Chaucer), not the 17th.)

I don't know which scholarly version you're referring to, but the NAS and NRSV are both reasonably accurate; if you want it to be as literal as possible, go with NAS, but NRSV is more readable.

I'll leave the recommendation of an academic text to those with more experience in the field.
